Opioid Treatment Services
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is well established as an effective and safe approach to controlling opioid addiction. Properly prescribed medications are not intoxicating or sedating, and its effects do not interfere with ordinary activities such as driving a car. All clients requesting MAT for opioid dependence are evaluated under state and federal guidelinesand must meet ASAM and medical necessity criteria for initial and continuing care.
Clients will have a face to face evaluation by the medical director who will authorize or deny treatment. The treating physician should balance the risks and benefits of MAT treatment against the risks associated with no treatment or treatment without medication. The client must demonstrate compliance to the individual plan of care, participate in outpatient treatment, progress towards achieving goals including demonstrating progress towards becoming drug free.
Clients will be closely monitored by the treating physician to ensure medication compliance. Clients are drug tested two times each weekin order to monitor opioid and other substance use. Client adherence to medication regimens and session appointments is associated with better treatment outcomes, and regular monitoring can help patients can help clients plan for possible obstacles and teach them ways to handle problems that occur. Regular assessment of the client’s level of engagement in treatment and the strength of the therapeutic alliance allows for modification of the treatment plan and level of care in response to the client’s progress or lack thereof.
